Summary of Benefits
- Eligibility:A child of an eligible employee shall be eligible to receive a scholarship under this plan as awarded by the Executive Board of Sprinkler Fitters Local 821.A child means a natural born or adopted child of an employee who is under the age of 24, who resides with the employee or is dependent upon the employee for support.An employee becomes an eligible employee under this program at the end of the second year following the completion of at least five hundred (500) hours of employment for an employer who has a collective bargaining agreement with the union.An employee remains an eligible employee until the employee has less than two hundred fifty (250) hours of employment for an employer with a collective bargaining agreement with the union in the plan year.In the event of the death or retirement of an eligible employee, the child shall remain eligible for scholarship consideration for twenty four (24) months after the employee’s death or retirement.Only children of eligible employees, who have already completed a minimum of twenty four (24) credit hours in the previous school year, with a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 in a College or University as described below, may receive a benefit under this scholarship plan.
- How Are Scholarships Awarded:Scholarships are awarded by the Executive Board of Local 821 based on available resources.Scholarship availability will be posted on the Local 821 website and by calling or emailing a request to the office.
- Scholarship Selection:All scholarship applications and accompanying required documentation must be received by the local 821 office by September 15 of each year.Selection of scholarship recipients will be based on the applicants’ completion of all requirements listed in Section I and on the application.Scholarships will be paid directly to the scholarship recipient to the address listed on their application.Recipients will be notified of selection and receive their award by mail.The list of selected winners will be posted on our website and read at the December meeting.
- College or University:The term “College” or “University” means any federal, state, parochial church or private educational institution, which provides a program of education beyond high school.This program must provide for regular classes and courses of study, which are required for eligibility to or certification of a Bachelor’s Degree or higher or provides a program, which is acceptable for full credit towards such a degree.
- Administration:The Executive Board of Local 821 administers the Sprinkler Fitters Local 821 James (Kenny) Moore Scholarship Fund.The Executive Board in their sole discretion will determine all questions concerning the scholarship.In the event that the Executive Board denies in whole or any part of this benefit provided to you, you have the right to request a review of the Executive Board decision.A written notice of such a request must be submitted to the Executive Board of Local 821 within sixty (60) days after the denial of your request.This notice should briefly describe the grounds upon which you appeal and be signed by the eligible party.
- Amendment:The Executive Board of Local 821 may amend the scholarship plan at any time.
